| Orthodox Music Festival
is the unique program which is supported by Russian
Ministry of Culture and Presidential Administration
of Russian Federation. This musical enlightening project
is addressed to the wide audience from Russia and abroad.
The program of the festival consists of concerts of
leading Russian and foreign choirs in St. Petersburg,
Novgorod Veliky and on the island of Valaam, theme excursions,
lectures and workshops of experts from Russia, Ukraine,
Greece, Serbia, Georgia, etc. The festival of
2011 will take place at July, 5 – 29. |

I heartily greet the participants and guests of the
Orthodox Music Festival.
The Orthodox music is a great stratum of a culture,
adopted by our people along with the icon painting,
sacred literature, architecture and the main treasure
- Orthodox faith. The contribution of the Holy Russia
to the keeping and developing of the sacred music
is enormous: composers, interpreters, leaders of the
choirs from the Old times beared record to the world
about Christ with their talents, revealing the width
and fertility of our souls. This bearing witness is
going on nowadays.
Your representative forum unites composers, scientists,
regents, singers, connoisseurs of the art of the music
from 20 countries. I wish everybody the inspired investigation
of the deep senses of the Orthodox art, communion
with the great cultural tradition of fraternal Slavic

Dear friends!
I congratulate you with the opening of the Festival
on the Valaam island.
For the first time in Russia it is held so major festival
with the participation of more than 300 musicians, scientists,
public and church figures, students from all over the
world. Among the most important forum events there are
executions of outstanding musical pieces, master-classes,
lectures on Old Russian chant and excursions of the
sacred places and museums of the North-West region.
I am sure that a highly topical festival program will
let the participants and guests to get acquainted with
the musical traditions of the Russian Ortodox Church,
rich Russian history and culture and to relate creative
and friendly ties.
