We are inviting you to participate in the unique musical and educational program
of the St. Petersburg Summer School in July, 2012. In the course of the three weeks you will have the opportunity to plunge into the rich and little known world
of the authentic Russian culture. Participation in the festival will help you
to understand the basics of the one of Europe’s oldest and most original civilizations, brush against its sacred mysteries, to visit holy places and enjoy the magnificent
and quiet Northern nature.

The art of the Orthodox church – Old Russian icons and chants – still generate great interest around the world. The ancient traditions are still alive, you can check it
by yourself. Besides, the festival will give you a really international atmosphere
and a rare in its warmth communication with the people of orthodox faith from different countries. And the final river cruise to Valaam island with the visit
to a functioning monastery will become an unforgettable impression for the rest
of your life.

Professionals will also make their discoveries, as within the festival’s framework they will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the authentic samples of Old Russian singing art, to see the ancient manuscripts kept in Saint Petersburg libraries, to meet the well-known medievists and famous conductors, reviving authentic church singing. Znamenny and demestvenny chants, the best samples of Byzantine musical tradition, the sacred compositions  of Russian classics and contemporary composers – all these treasures will be performed at the festival – in your interpretation.
